All open fires in Maryland are regulated under Maryland Department of the Environment Air Quality Regulations.
Depending on whatâs being burned, where and how itâs being burned, and also why itâs being burned, Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Maryland Department of Health may also be involved, as may other local officials.

A project to help these locally endangered bird species with their nesting sites will soon launch near Ocean City. It s a last-ditch effort by conservationists hoping to save these rare birds from local extinction.
The project will launch a floating nesting raft, measuring 32 feet square, into waters off the resort town in coming weeks. The effort is being led by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources with help from the Maryland Coastal Bays Program and the Audubon Society.
