Steve Bittner/Times-News FINZEL — A Finzel area family was left homeless early Wednesday when fire destroyed a residence in the 2000 block of Pocahontas Road, according to the Eastern Garrett Volunteer Fire Department. No one was injured in the fire that was reported to the Garrett County 911 emergency center at 12:02 a.m., prompting alert of numerous volunteer fire departments from Garrett and Allegany counties and nearby Somerset County, Pennsylvania. “When we rolled up there was fire blowing out of every side of the building,” said Eastern Garrett Assistant Chief Justin Clark, who was with the first-arriving firefighters. “We were on the scene in 6 to 7 minutes.”

Federalsburg woman charged with arson, insurance fraud

FEDERALSBURG — A Federalsburg woman was indicted by a Caroline County Grand Jury on five charges, including arson, in connection with a June fire at her house after a lengthy investigation by deputies from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire marshal’s office announced Dec. 15. A passerby reported the fire at 3835 Seippes Road to 911 at 5:11 a.m. June 15. The two-story, wood frame house was destroyed, with damages estimated at $215,000. Owners were living in a camper on the property, the fire marshal’s office said. Owner Caitlin Hudson, 45, was quickly identified as a suspect, investigators reported. They alleged Hudson intended to make a fraudulent insurance claim after the fire.
