This past winter two racially motivated incidents caused controversy in the Marysville community.
The first incident happened in December when a group of kids threatened the lives of fellow students in a ZOOM chat.

MARYSVILLE, Wash. Allegations of systemic racism and a lack of leadership in the Marysville School District brought a large crowd out to a Marysville park on Saturday.
Police in Marysville investigated two students last December for using racial slurs and threatening to kill students of color, even mentioning some classmates by name.
Some families said they believe the district hasn t done enough in response.

Angry parents are calling on school district leaders in Marysville to step down. Their concerns are linked to how the district handled two separate incidents against students of color. They claim school leaders did not do enough soon enough after several suspected hate crimes and reports of death threats.
The alleged hate crimes involved students at Marysville Pilchuck High School. They happened in December and January but the students accused of making the death threats weren’t even disciplined until this past week.

Detectives in Snohomish County have completed an investigation into a Lake Stevens man who allegedly threatened to kill minorities in a social media post on a Marysville student’s page.
Chief Scairpon released a statement on Friday. In part:
The Marysville Police Department has been in regular proactive communication with members of our BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color) community even before these crimes occurred. Our involvement in community meetings to address hate and racism in our community signifies our firm commitment to work with our community to call out racism and hate when we see it and address racism appropriately with criminal and other consequences when appropriate.
