Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has announced his state would begin to ease its border controls with Victoria, marking the first time all Australian jurisdictions were classified as "very low risk" under its system. Mr McGowan labelled it an “incredible achievement” for the whole of Australia, despite months of little to no cases prevalent across the country. “No community transmission around Australia means lives and jobs have been saved,” he said. The premier also flagged Western Australia’s venue capacity would increase to 75 per cent, but if the two-square-metre rule allowed for more patrons, a greater number would be permitted. “The two-square-metre rule will continue to apply to all other unfixed seating venues and facilities including nightclubs and music events, galleries, the zoo, and the casino," he said.
