Hospitals remain busy caring for coronavirus patients

Hospital bosses say they are still caring for large numbers of patients with coronavirus, despite the drop in infections in the community.
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, said its staff were dealing with numbers similar to the first wave of the pandemic.
Dr Rod Harpin, medical director at the trust said, âThis is largely due to the length of time that it takes for the virus to run its course, and the fact that in this wave patients that do require hospital care tend to be sicker.
