A CUMBRIAN woman who contracted Covid-19 has spoken movingly of how the virus almost claimed her partner s life - and of the expert care they have had from healthcare professionals as they recover. Twin babies, who are believed to be the first in the UK born with Covid-19, are healthy and back home in time to see Santa for their first Christmas.
Kenna and Lissa were born 10 weeks early on July 3 weighing just 3lbs and had to be isolated after they tested positive for Covid-19, as well as their mum.
The mum of twins, who is the only one who can tell them apart as they sit in matching Christmas outfits, describes one of the twins as laid back and patient , while the other is a moody Margaret.
It happened just before 11am at Common End, Distington. A 44-year-old man from Whitehaven has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious. Building work to improve the capacity within the emergency department at West Cumberland Hospital will start in the New Year.
The work is part of the £4 million winter funding awarded to North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust earlier this year and will enable it to further develop the same day emergency care facilities we can offer on site.
A spokesman for the trust said: “The delivery of additional space will enable us to develop this work further, by improving capacity, reducing overcrowding, and improve the overall patient experience.”
