Kolkata, Jan 30: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday raised concern over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee s reference to her relations with non-Bengali bureaucrats in a bid to woo Hindi-speaking voters ahead of the assembly elections due in April-May.
Banerjee, while interacting with Hindi-speakers at the TMC headquarters on Thursday, had said that many of her officers like DGP Virendra, former chief secretary Rajiva Sinha and former Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar are from other states and they share excellent relations with her.
West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary and said that the assembly elections due in April-May should be devoid of violence. The Father of the Nation had preached for non-violence and it should be adhered to in the polls, he said. In the coming polls in 2021, we have the opportunity to make it free of bloodshed and violence. The coming polls should not be blood-stained like the 2018 (panchayat) polls. There should be a complete air of non-violence and peace this time, Dhankhar said. He told reporters that he was not speaking from political considerations .

Reiterating that the political neutrality of bureaucrats has been compromised, the governor asserted that the official positioning of the state government cannot be on considerations of regionalism.

Kolkata, Jan 29: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday has slammed State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and accused her of regional appeasement ahead of upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Governor Dhankar attacked Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and said on Twitter that political neutrality is being compromised in the state, while political commitment is being promoted.
Terming it an alarming scenario, Governor Dhankhar shared a video of Banerjee in which she can be heard saying that her government doesn t discriminate among people on the basis of language.
