Polling locations around Bedford County were âpretty quietâ on Tuesday during the primary election, with elections officials anecdotally reporting a turnout far below what was seen during last yearâs presidential election.
Commissioner Deb Baughman said Tuesday afternoon there were only a few issues that needed to be sorted out during the day, beginning with a couple precincts having difficulty turning the election machines on in the morning.
She added there was also some feedback about the processing time of the scanners, but she said the machines were working properly and simply take time to scan the ballot.
âThe one thing weâve heard about is the scanners taking ballots slowly,â she said. âI think people need to understand theyâre taking an image of the ballots, so thatâs a good thing to make sure itâs accurate.â
West Providence Township has been awarded $2,051,960 from the Appalachian Regional Commissionâs (ARC) Local Access Road Program to construct an extension of Industrial Boulevard within the Everett Area Business Park.
The new, 0.19-mile of roadway will extend from Industrial Boulevard to Armory Street and will provide a secondary access point for traffic, as well as provide access to additional acreage within the business park.
The project will improve the efficiency and safety for the business park traffic. Additionally, the improvements will provide a secondary access point into the park. The secondary access point will serve as an attraction tool for potential new businesses into the park, as it is projected that the expanded development opportunity will support 200-250 new jobs once the site is completely built out.
