PORTLAND, Ore. Oregon Gov. Kate Brown on Tuesday announced a statewide vaccination goal to fully reopen the state s economy and shared upcoming changes to the state s risk level framework.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday approved BioNTech and Pfizer’s request to administer COVID-19 vaccines to children aged 12-15 in emergency cases but that doesn’t mean the shots will immediately be available to other members of that age group in San Diego County.
Before the younger teenagers could get a COVID-19 shot in the region, the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup must discuss and approve the matter. The group, which covers California, Washington, Nevada and Oregon, is comprised of nationally acclaimed scientists and independently reviews FDA recommendations on coronavirus vaccines.
Oregon now has second highest rate of infection
Oregon is now second in the nation for new COVID-19 infections, after months of keeping its levels lower than most other states, and its hospitalization rates in several counties are close to triggering a renewed ban on indoor dining and other high-risk activities, Gov. Kate Brown has announced.
At a press conference on Friday, Brown warned, “In the race between vaccines and variants, right now the variants have the upper hand.”
She said several counties are “on the verge of having to reinstate extreme risk restrictions on businesses and activities.” As of Friday, however, Yamhill County, which is in the high risk category, was not among them.

The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is being used again in the U.S. In a statement, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) said, “After a thorough review of very rare adverse events following the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup supports the recommendation of the FDA and CDC to lift the pause on the vaccine.” The statement did add that clinics in the state can administer the vaccine as long as they provide educational materials about the low risk of associated health effects and offer other available vaccines. –The San Luis Obispo County Public Health department will resume administering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine locally, in accordance with guidance from the California Department of Public Health.
“The health and safety of our community is top priority in this vaccination effort to end the COVID-19 pandemic,” said County Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein. “This pause was an example of how vaccine safety is monitored on a national level, and the thorough and transparent manner with which adverse events are investigated. We are happy to have confirmation from multiple entities that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is safe to resume administering locally.”
