A rundown of the North Platte public school board meeting on July 12:
North Platte Foundation Director Terri Burchell said the week of Aug. 23 will be the Back to School Bash with Change Wars and Dine Out to Donate, among other events, concluding with the Back Yard BBQ and Education Afterhours.
Burchell noted that distinguished alumni will be recognized at the Afterhours event.
The 2020 distinguished alumni are Ronnie Baker 1961, Cheryl (Edis) Erickson 1962 and Dr. Richard Hansen 1970. The 2021 distinguished alumni are Deborah Murphy 1968, Marvin Webb 1965 and Gil Wilkinson 1960.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - The Georgia Department of Health is putting the Chattahoochee Valley on notice. Thereâs tainted drugs on the street in our area, and theyâre killing people.
Health department officials tell News Leader 9 that counterfeit Percocet and Xanax pills are circulating the streets of counties in our area. A press release from the Columbus Health Department reads as follows:

Nearly 30% of people 16 and older are now fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in the six counties of the West Central Health District, according to the state tracking system.
The numbers are updated HERE each Wednesday by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
Statewide, the total of fully vaccinated people 16 and older is nearly 40%.
As of April 22, the WCDHD’s “risk dial” stands at 1.78, in the moderate level. The risk level decreased a bit from the preceding week, dropping from 1.83.
There were 38 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the WCDHD from April 15-21. Four COVID-19 patients were in Great Plains Health hospital as of April 22, according to WCDHD reports.

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Muscogee County Jail inmates will have the opportunity to receive Modernaâs COVID-19 vaccine Monday.
According to former sheriff, John Darr, who now oversees the jail, vaccination will be optional.
The West Central Health District will be administering the vaccinations. According to Pamela Kirkland with the health district, roughly 500 doses of the vaccine have been allocated for the inmates. Darr says the jail currently holds just over 900 inmates.

As of Sunday, more than 948,824 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given to the priority groups, according to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
More than 372,992 Nebraskans have completed vaccination, representing 25.1% of Nebraskans age 16 years and older.
In the West Central Health District, which includes Lincoln County, 21.78% of residents 16 and over have been vaccinated.
Last week, the number of hospitalizations due to coronavirus in Nebraska increased for the first time in 19 weeks. Gov. Pete Ricketts encourages people to register to be vaccinated, and continue to keep six feet from people in public, stay home when sick, and wash hands often.
