Governor issues order creating Blue Ribbon Task Force to develop training and education opportunities, providing better jobs for West Virginians
CHARLESTON, WV – Gov. Jim Justice issued an executive order Tuesday, creating a Blue Ribbon Task Force, designed to better integrate the training and certification programs offered through the West Virginia Community and Technical College system and West Virginia’s Workforce Development system, opening the door to better job opportunities for all West Virginians.
“I’ve said many times that we need to do everything in our power to create more and more opportunities to educate and train the hard-working, dedicated West Virginians who make up our workforce,” Gov. Washington State Public Four-Year Colleges Go Test Optional, Permanently

The decision to move to permanent test-optional policies reaffirm our sector’s commitment to reduce barriers for students. We’ve all heard the one about the struggling person who begs and pleads “Please, just let me win the lottery,” and is continually frustrated until one day that person hears from on high, “Do me a favor and purchase a lottery ticket, would you?”
A similar lesson can be found in the predicament facing those who would very much like to hand out the money meant to help West Virginia high school seniors continue their educations.
While we are given the impression teenagers all over the country are bemoaning the high cost of a college education, there are millions upon millions of dollars available to help them do just that. Those in charge of distributing that money are even extending deadlines to encourage more students to apply.

Smaller and regional colleges and universities made $132,000 in illegal payments to an association that was created to lobby on their behalf, according to a legislative audit released Monday.
In 2013, the West Virginia Association of Regional Colleges and Universities was created as a 501(c)6 organization through the IRS and was registered with the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office in May 2014. The organization was exclusively comprised of college and university presidents, who are state employees.
The group which included presidents of Bluefield State College, Concord University, Glenville State College, Shepherd University, West Liberty University and West Virginia State University was dissolved in November 2015 after failing to submit annual filings and fees, which no longer authorized them to legally conduct business in West Virginia.
