Volunteers needed for bunk bed build this Saturday

(WXYZ) â Providing kids in need with a place sleep. Volunteers are needed this Saturday to help build dozens of beds, during Bunks Across America.
In Westland, the Western Wayne County chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is organizing the build. Chapter President Wendell Gramlick joined 7 Action News to talk about how people can volunteer and donate.
Sleep in Heavenly Peach Bunks Across America happens Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Westland Lowe s, 6555 N. Newburgh Road in Westland.

(WXYZ) â Itâs not a real dog, but the health benefits of a robotic companion pet are proving to be just as real.

received an Ageless Innovations Joy For All companion pet in November. The pet was originally designed as a consumer product to inspire play, but the pandemic revealed an even more powerful use, apotential treatment for depression and anxiety, possibly even slowing or reversing dementia disorders, which are all proven to progress more rapidly in isolation.
âI was a little skeptical at first, but the feedback we have gotten has just been so positive. I mean, this has been a life changing experience for some folks,â says Dr. Thomas B. Jankowski, a research gerontologist at Wayne State University.
We’ve heard it before: There are good police, and there are bad police.
But there’s another category that may not immediately come to mind when pondering the badged men and women risking their lives for the sake of others.
Even Westland’s Deputy Police Chief Brian Miller was initially stumped when asked if there were intrinsic truths about police work that most everyday residents don’t understand.
“That’s a big question there,” he said before pausing. “I think that … Yeah, I don’t know. I don’t really have anything very profound to answer to that other than I think 99.9% of officers are out there trying to do the right thing.”
