The Aldi store in West Swindon with houses next door Supermarket giant Aldi has been refused permission to receive deliveries at its West Swindon store between 10pm and 7am. The company had applied for the condition of trading which said no deliveries could be made between those times to be dropped – but neighbours objected. Aldi said the move was “in response top demand for greater operation flexibility in delivery hours to meet the needs and expectations of customers, to provide a safe environment for customers and to allow deliveries at quieter times to avoid congestion.” If that condition was to be dropped, Aldi said another – on limiting noise – needed to be changed to remove the word “deliveries” from the list of activities where noise must not exceed normal background levels at night.
Building materials, a computer and a TV were some of the things a group of volunteers found while cleaning up West Swindon. Nearly 40 people took part in The Big Clean last weekend, filling up a skip in less than two hours. Westlea parish councillor Suresh Gattapur said: “The residents can see what they can achieve as a team. “I am so proud to be part of it and my sincere thanks to everyone who rose to the occasion and helped to clean up the area. “This is just the beginning; we have a long way to go to get to where we want to be.

Suresh Gattapur walked 26.2 miles last year to support the project, which aims to support young people in the area. Coun Gattapur handed over the cheque to the West Swindon Parish Council last week to get the wheels in motion. The track in Rivermead, Westlea is estimated to cost around £85,000 He said: “I am so glad our residents and local businesses came forward to support and donated generously for this cause. “We have managed to raise a staggering £3,634. We still have some ways to go so please keep eye out for future events I will be organising.
LED lights installed to help improve safety at a danger crossing in West Swindon have sparked complaints. A resident living near the zebra crossing in Hay Lane – where a teenager suffered terrible injuries after being hit by a car in 2016 – says the ultra-bright bulbs are shining into their property. West Swindon parish councillors discussed the issue during a planning and environment committee meeting earlier this week. The borough’s highways team told the parish council to allow the vegetation along the side of the road to grow slightly higher in order to block the light. But during the meeting, the committee agreed that it was not a sustainable solution.
