Over 3,000 West Hertfordshire NHS workers have received the Covid-19 vaccine. The West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust kickstarted its vaccination programme to staff members last Monday (January 4), as at least some of the process was distributed with the help of Watford FC at the Team West Hertfordshire sanctuary. And over the week since the process began, the trust reports over 3,000 vaccinations to its staff members. Yesterday it was announced around two million people in the UK have been given at least the first jab for the vaccine, with around 2.4 million jabs – meaning nearly 400,000 second jabs - given in total. Many NHS workers at West Hertfordshire hospitals thanked both the trust and Watford FC for the help provided.
Watford General Hospital is looking after more than 300 Covid patients. Credit: Holly Cant/PA Watford General Hospital continues to look after huge numbers of Covid patients, latest figures from the NHS show. NHS figures released today reveal West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust was caring for 330 Covid patients, as of 8am on Tuesday (January 5). This is up from 227 on Christmas Day and more than double the number of Covid patients the trust was looking after at any one time during the spring. The data shows there have been 270 Covid admissions and diagnoses at the trust since Christmas Day, including 24 from care homes. Figures show out of the 270 patients above, 230 were new admissions from outside the hospital.
Watford FC has relaunched its support for NHS workers to utilise its stadium as a sanctuary away from the Covid-19 pandemic. And now, with a soar of admissions and staff being asked to postpone their annual leave where possible, the need for the Team West Hertfordshire Sanctuary has returned. From Monday to Fridays, the club will be open between 10.30am and 3.30pm to offer a canteen for West Hertfordshire NHS staff so they can relax away from the hospital. A meal deal of sandwiches, snacks and drinks for £2 will be offered, or staff can bring in their own. Coffee and biscuits are available for £1.

The way it should work is that the CCG are ensuring that it s delivering what the county needs, and that it s financially prudent, et cetera. The trust should be coming up with plans that work for everybody, that s the theory. In practice, that doesn t happen. The point at the moment is, have they given it the right due diligence to get to this point? Up to this point, there s been scrutiny by one of our sister campaign groups, who have taken them to court in a judicial review. That was a high court judge saying when you arrived at your strategic outlying case, which is one of the three formal stages, you did that in the wrong manner.
