MASSENA â Town of Massena officials have scheduled a public hearing for 4:30 p.m. Aug. 4 to take comments on a proposal to place a 90-day moratorium on cryptocurrency mining operations in the town while regulations are drawn up to address what they say are unsightly shipping containers.
âParticularly the sea boxes or the trailers,â Town Supervisor Steven D. OâShaughnessy said. âWhat we want to put in place is regulations, zoning laws that prohibit the cryptocurrency from just plunking trailers down, like a shipping container.â
Mr. OâShaughnessy said they want to ensure that whatever is used for the operations be a presentable building.
MASSENA â A project that has been in the works for several years will still be in the works for some time to come.
Planning for the East Massena Consolidated Water District has been put on hold because materials needed for the project are either unavailable or are beyond what had been budgeted.
âThe water line is on hold for the same reasons that every construction job has been put on hold. Itâs been very difficult to get some of the materials,â Town Supervisor Steven D. OâShaughnessy said.
One material in particular thatâs difficult to find is copper for the copper laterals they were going to use to replace damaged lines leading to the houses. He said they likely would not be able to get those materials until late fall, which would have been the end of the construction season.

MASSENA â An objection was filed with the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections on Thursday, alleging that the Board of Elections did not receive proper notice of the Massena Republican caucus.
If thatâs the case, it could mean the caucus was not valid and there would be no time to hold another one.
âAt this point there wouldnât be enough time. They would have to do either a write-in campaign or something of that nature because the last day is July 22 to hold a caucus. But youâd have to put a notice in at least 10 days prior. There isnât enough time to hold another caucus,â St. Lawrence County Deputy Commissioner Gordon I. Ward said.
