Galesburg Council hears renewed calls for Lindsay Hillery to resign

Hillery was not present for the meeting. This is Hillery s third arrest of the year and her second pending felony.  This prompted Knox County Board member Pam Davidson, who lives in the Ward 3 council member’s district, to call for her resignation during the public comment section of the meeting. “I know you might have spoken to her to (tell her to) step down, but if you haven’t, I’m publicly asking as someone who lives in that ward. She needs to step down,” Davidson said. Davidson said if Hillery does not step down, she will start a petition.

Galesburg Council approves Pickleball at Bateman Park, Railroad Days funding, and more

Galesburg City Council approved a bid to bring Pickleball to Bateman Park on Monday night. The five members present all voted in favor, minus Dwight White who abstained. City Manager Todd Thompson says the original bid was about $97,000 to convert the two tennis courts into six pickleball courts. Then after a second look staff decided to not replace the current fencing. That brought the bid amount from All Weather Courts Inc. that was approved down to $51,800. Thompson says it's the city goal to replace the fencing at a later date. Thompson notes this item was not budgeted for but the council asked that this come forward. He says the city will use the fund balance to cover the costs. Railroad Days is back this summer and Galesburg Alderman on Monday voted to fund the event with about $11,000. The festival is scheduled for June 24–27, 2021 in downtown Galesburg. Event organizers believe they will be able to host a safe and fun event this year after COVID quashed its 50th annivers
