When asked to spread a message to the school and community on the importance of creating a safe place for LGBTQ students, Kai Flicker said it was an opportunity to speak freely for the first time.
A Grade 11 student at Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI), Flicker shared a message posted on the public board’s website and YouTube channel. Wide-ranging in the video, Flicker said it was a way to speak in their voice.

“I saw it as taking my own voice back and saying the things that I have kind of wanted to say for years without repercussions,” said Flicker in a phone interview this week.

School boards across the province which includes the ones right here in Cornwall and SDG will be receiving a total of $972.6 million for the 2021-22 school year, an overall increase of $18.1 million from the year prior, through the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) Program.
“Our government is committed to advancing student success, and we are delivering significant resources here in Stormont Dundas South Glengarry, and across the province to help young people reach their full potential,” said Stormont Dundas South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell.
