Maysville school board in deadlock with teachers union over contracts

MAYSVILLE - Federal mediation awaits the Maysville Local Schools after board members declared impasse during contract negotiations with the teachers union. We re bargaining for fair and sustainable salaries, improved working conditions and better learning opportunities for our students, Maysville Education Association (MEA) President Myra Warne said.
A major point of contention between the board and MEA lies with proposed economic packages. A concern that we have as we move forward to negotiate an economic package, if you will, is that this school year alone we ve lost more than 8 percent of our teaching staff, and we re quite concerned that, among other things, the fact that our pay lags the state average by $8,000, Warne explained.
Former high school principal pleads not guilty
ZANESVILLE, Ohio A former high school principal is pleading not guilty to three counts of illegal use of minor or impaired person in nudity oriented material. 49-year-old Henry Jackoby was arraigned Wednesday on the third degree felony counts. The charges stem from an alleged incident in November.
In a separate case, Jackoby previously pleaded not guilty to one count of tampering with evidence in connection to a sexual assault investigation. His trial in that case is scheduled for June 17.
Jackoby in December was placed on administrative leave from Maysville Local Schools, and he resigned in February.

Work closing Ohio 284 and 668
ZANESVILLE - The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced that Ohio 284 will be closed from April 12 to 16 for a slide repair from Young Hickory Road to Bristol Church Road. The suggested detour is Ohio 284 to Ohio 146 to Ohio 340 to Ohio 284 and reverse for the other direction.
Ohio 668 will also be closed for culvert replacement from April 13 to 14 at OK Sweeney Road, south of Somerset in Perry County. The suggested detour is Ohio 668 to Ohio 37 to U.S. 22 to Ohio 668 and reverse for the other direction.

ZANESVILLE - The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center recently received a $128,367 grant from the Ohio Department of Education to expand industry recognized credential programs to high school students in the service region.
More than 150 students will have the opportunity to earn the Elder Care Certificate. The program is designed to upgrade the skills of those working with elderly citizens through better understanding the challenges seniors face, building interpersonal tools to function as team members and gaining expertise in serving the aging population.
