Remembering the greatest post-game press conference of all time
And other memories of Coach Jerry Burns
When you mention the name of former head coach Jerry Burns to fans of the Minnesota Vikings, there are certain to be a lot of different memories that come to mind. For most, however, the most cited would likely be what happened in the aftermath of the Vikings’ 23-21 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams on 5 November 1989.
The score might look like a fairly conventional football score, but the Vikings got to their 23 points in quite an unconventional manner. The points came as a result of seven field goals from barefoot kicker Rich Karlis, five of which came from less than 30 yards. That was enough to send the game to overtime, and the Vikings won courtesy of a blocked punt from linebacker Mike Merriweather that went out of the end zone for a safety. That was the first overtime safety in NFL history.
Labriola on Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft May 01, 2021 at 06:05 AM Copied!
The first round attracts the attention, the hype, the television ratings, the red carpet, the biggest crowds, and generates the excitement. It s the NFL Commissioner who announces all of the first-round picks and has a hug for any of them who want one. The picks in the first round are debated and analyzed and graded immediately, and they re remembered for decades, for better or worse, by fans and critics alike.
But the hardcores and the people whose paychecks and professional reputations are tied directly to a particular draft class understand that games are won or lost and jobs are kept or not by what happens on the second day of the draft. And the makeup of the rosters of the successful teams prove the point.

It’s time once again to hop into the only time machine they ever would entertain to budget at BTSC.my brain’s Delorean. Today, our trip into Steelers yesteryear takes us back to the day when a crash of a Spantax charter-flight from Madrid to New York claimed 50 people and injured 110 more, Chicago had the country’s top single with “
Hard For Me To Say I’m Sorry”, movie-goers were falling for Richard Gere and Debra Winger
in An Officer and a Gentleman, and the football world was bracing for a long work stoppage that was two weeks away.
Steelers Update 11:14 pm
Over the past 16 weeks we’ve watched linebacker T.J. Watt rip other teams apart. Against the Colts Watt had a forced fumble and 2 sacks which extended the Steelers NFL sack record to 72 straight games.
Watt leads the league with 15 sacks and Mike Tomlin said that Watt’s skills are out of this world good.
Watt leads the league in 3 different categories, sacks, tackles for loss, and quarterback hits. Watt is the only player in Steelers history to have multiple seasons with over 14 sacks recorded with 15 this season. Watt tied Mike Merriweather for second on the Steelers single season sack list.
