Marlborough Coastguard and St John Ambulance have shared the premises for 10 years in Picton. The building was paid for by fundraising and donations. Picton Emergency Operations Centre Trust secretary Ros Benson remembers how the idea to create the premises was born. “We organised two winter balls to raise funds in 2003 and 2004, and we created a committee with about seven people to decide what to do with the money raised.” Picton had an ambulance but it was parked up in a lock-up in Market street, so St John was discussing building an ambulance station.
