Microsoft launches Surface Laptop 4 with AMD Ryzen 4000 and Intel 11th gen processors
Microsoft has announced its latest laptop offerings in the form of Surface Laptop 4. The series is up for sale in select markets, in a total of four CPU options, two each from AMD and Intel, and several memory variants.

Building on its more than four decades of hardware legacy, Microsoft has announced the new Surface Laptop 4. An update to the Surface Laptop 3, the new laptops will come with a choice of new processors - AMD Ryzen 4000 and Intel 11th gen processors.
As demand for notebooks continues to surge, Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled the next-generation model in its Surface Laptop series.
The new clamshell, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4, will again be offered in two sizes but will include one major update compared to the Surface Laptop 3 with the ability to choose between either AMD or Intel processors this time around.
The Surface Laptop is targeted as Microsoft’s mainstream notebook series, offered alongside the company’s Surface Book detachable notebook and Surface Pro 2-in-1 tablet offerings that are more focused on professionals.

Microsoft has revealed the newest member of its hardware family – the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 which will be available in 13.5-inch and 15-inch models.
Microsoft also unveiled a range of new Surface accessories for business users including headphones, wireless headsets, a speaker and webcam.
The Surface 4 laptop retains the design of the previous generation and includes a 3:2 PixelSense touchscreen display as well as your choice of metal or Alcantara finishes in a variety of colours.
Also onboard is a built-in HD front-facing camera with solid low-light capabilities and a studio microphone array so you can be seen and heard in high quality for your next virtual meeting.
That’s nothing to sneeze at. The Surface Laptop 3 featured the Ryzen 7 3780U and the Ryzen 5 3850U. Both were quad-core parts. The Ryzen 5 4680U and the Ryzen 7 4980U featured in the Surface Laptop 4 are 6- and 8-core Ryzen processors, respectively. Performance will likely increase sharply just from the added core count.
The fact that these are Surface Edition chips is meaningful, too. AMD and Microsoft’s original Surface Edition partnership (the Ryzen 7 3780U and the Ryzen 5 3850U for the Surface Laptop 3) produced semi-custom parts that tweaked the existing Ryzen architecture and added numerous features, from extra compute units and better responsiveness, to an on-die pen controller and more. “When looking for the right processor to power the all new Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, we wanted the best graphics performance in a single processor,” Microsoft distinguished engineer Pavan Davuluri said in a news release at the time.
