Augusta fort to host talk with senior archaeologist

AUGUSTA In the first of a series of lectures sponsored by Old Fort Western and the Maine Bicentennial Commission, Dr. Arthur Spiess is to present an overview of the time prior to historical records.
Fort Western is to host Spiess from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 3, when he will entertain questions on Maine’s Native American History. During the hours of the meet and greet, the fort’s normal admission rate will be reduced to $6.
Spiess’ talk, “Maine Native Americans: An Archaeological Perspective Covering 13,000 years of Native American History in Maine” was filmed at Augusta City Hall by CTV-7 and can be viewed for free on CTV-7 and from the city of Augusta website (augustamaine.gov/), Fort Western’s website, and Fort Western’s Facebook page.
