COVID-19 vaccine recipients entitled to two-day leave: CECC

CNA file photo Taipei, May 5 (CNA) People who receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Taiwan will be entitled to take two days off work from Wednesday, though whether they receive paid leave will be up to individual employers, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC). The vaccination leave includes the day the shot is administered and the next day if they experience side effects, Health and Welfare Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the CECC, said at a press briefing on Wednesday. Employers will not be required to pay employees if they take the two days leave, Chen said. According to a statement released by the CECC, people will not have to prove they feel unwell after receiving the vaccine in order to take leave, they will only have to show their COVID-19 vaccination card.

Taiwan approves emergency use of Moderna vaccine

CNA file photo Taipei, May 5 (CNA) Taiwan has granted authorization for emergency use of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, and the first batch is expected to be delivered this month, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said Wednesday. At a press briefing, Chen said the emergency authorization was issued on April 22 by Taiwan s Food and Drug Administration for the vaccine, which is produced by the American pharmaceutical company Moderna, Inc. On the question of the delivery of the vaccine, Chen said he could not give a precise date but estimated it would be sometime in May. The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has received no information about delays of the Moderna shipment, said Chen, who heads the CECC.

The Taiwanese pilot in his 30s received the first dose of the vaccine on April 22. Nine days later on May 1, he began to show related symptoms, said CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥). He took a COVID-19 test later that day and the result came back positive early Tuesday.
