The Road Transport Ministry of the Government of India has proposed to exempt electric vehicles from registration charges. A draft notification has been issued to get comments from the general public as well as other stakeholders within 30 days.
In this regard, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a draft notification proposing the exemption for Battery-Operated Vehicles (BOVs)
This is among other measures proposed by the ministry of road transport and highways to encourage adoption of electric vehicles in India. In December last year, the Centre allowed the sale and registration of electric two-wheelers and three wheelers without batteries, in an attempt to bring down the cost of electric vehicles and boost the battery-swapping industry at the same time.
