How to sign up for COVID-19 vaccines in Virginia

Important update:  The Virginia Department of Health has launched a centralized preregistration system for COVID-19 vaccinations: vaccinate.virginia.gov. This replaces the local surveys that had been used by health districts across the state. If you have already preregistered with your local health district, your information and place in line should be maintained. You can check on the new site to see if you are in the system. The state has also launched a hotline, 877-VAX-IN-VA or 877-829-4682, for those who do not have computer access. Callers can speak to someone in English or Spanish, or ask for a call back in 100 languages.

Lynchburg-area health care providers prepare to ramp up vaccinations

Lynchburg-area health care providers are laying out plans to begin distributing COVID-19 vaccines to front-line essential workers and anyone age 65 and older as state health officials look to ramp up the slow-moving rollout. Ralph Northam has said the entire commonwealth will move to what’s known as Phase 1b of the vaccine delivery by the end of the month, prompting local health care providers to draw up plans for mass vaccinations.

Ralph Northam’s emergency executive orders. Bedford County residents have been coming to board of supervisors meetings since late November urging the board to pass a resolution that would reject Northam’s executive order limiting crowd sizes, among other coronavirus-related measures, saying such an order infringes on First Amendment rights of peaceful assembly. A few versions of a proposed resolution for Bedford County have circulated since the fall, one based off Bedford County’s Second Amendment sanctuary resolution passed last year and another borrowed from a First Amendment sanctuary resolution passed Dec. 1 by the Campbell County Board of Supervisors. We re starting to get close to the breaking point : COVID-19 cases straining Lynchburg General s resources

Acceleration of the coronavirus’ spread from the holidays has raised red flags among Lynchburg-area health professionals, as more than 100 COVID-19 patients have been reliably occupying about a third of local hospital beds. Centra Health CEO Dr. Andy Mueller said at a Thursday news conference the provider’s coronavirus numbers have been “incredibly dramatic and something that I didn’t think that we would honestly ever get to.” Though Centra’s health system has been able to bend to accommodate fluctuating levels of patients whose symptoms are severe enough to require care, he said “we’re starting to get close to the breaking point.”
