Plainview Independent School District granted employees a temporary benefit of 10 days of emergency paid sick leave this year to aid those affected by COVID-19.
During a regular meeting Thursday night, the PISD School Board unanimously approved a resolution to extend that benefit through June 30, 2021.
The leave was authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act under the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) that recommended a 14-day quarantine, which has since been reduced to seven to 10 days.
Looking at this from a school week perspective, the 14-day quarantine would ideally include 10 school days and two weekends, said Brandy Merrick, chief people officer for the district.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barton Health has begun the process of inoculating its frontline healthcare workers at the South Lake Tahoe hospital. The first 500 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were received from the State of California Thursday.
Doses received during the vaccine rollout in Phase 1a have been specifically allocated for healthcare workers and hospital Skilled Nursing Facility residents, under California’s tiered vaccination plan.
Each state leads the prioritization and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccination, based on federal guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). Once approved, an additional 200 Moderna vaccines from the state are expected to arrive at Barton later this month as part of the first phase of vaccine administration from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

When 63,000 doses of the newly authorized Moderna coronavirus vaccine starts arriving in Connecticut early next week, it will set the scene for wider distribution, because it doesn’t have to be kept at the super-cold temperature of minus-94-degrees-Farhenheit that the Pfizer vaccine requires and only a few health institutions can handle.
