For months, the Allentown Health Bureau’s call list for leftover COVID-19 vaccines was filled with people praying they’d get a call about a last-minute extra dose.
These folks were so desperate to get a scarce, life-saving vaccine, nearly a year into the pandemic, they’d drop everything and book it to the Allentown Fairgrounds with zero notice.
There’s no one left on the call list almost two weeks after Pennsylvania opened up vaccine appointments to anyone 16 or older. So, with two precious doses about to go to waste Thursday night, health bureau staff rushed to the adjacent Allentown Farmers’ Market.

GREAT FALLS â Benefis Health System in Great Falls said several weeks ago that the COVID vaccine will be mandatory for all employees. John Goodnow, the CEO of Benefis, said in a company-wide email that the process for mandatory vaccinations will begin in May. Employees can request deferrals for medical and religious reasons.
Several people stood outside along 10th Avenue South on Saturday to protest the policy, many holding signs expressing their disapproval. Benefis declined to comment on the protest, noting that none of the protesters are employees.

Oregon woman dies after receiving Johnson & Johnson vaccine
It is not yet known if the woman’s death was related to the vaccine.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon Health Authority officials are investigating the death of a woman who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The Oregon resident, a woman in her 50s, developed a rare, serious blood clot within two weeks of receiving a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
She was vaccinated before the Johnson & Johnson variety was put on pause due to six cases where recipients developed rare, serious blood clots.
Prior to the pause, about 7.5 million doses of the one-dose vaccine were administered in the U.S. with 87,000 of those in Oregon.
