The resource officer program has been in London and area schools for years, but after protests last year led to calls for change, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) decided to review it.

Students and families in the region are being asked for their views on whether police officers should continue to work in schools.
An online survey for students in grades 6 to 12 and their families is part of a review of the program that assigns officers to schools to teach students about alcohol and drugs, work with school staff to address specific issues and mentor students.

The review by the Thames Valley District and London District Catholic schools board and police forces in London, Woodstock, St. Thomas and Strathroy-Caradoc and the OPP was launched in response to calls by Black Lives Matter and Indigenous groups to remove the officers following the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in 2020 and amid a backdrop of local and global protests against racial injustice.
