Oil & Gas: Using Data to Understand and Address Safety and Health Issues Finding the balance between productivity and safety is a universal challenge for all industries. In the oil and gas extraction industry, workers are confronted with unique hazards and challenges each day. Presented by members of the NIOSH Oil and Gas Extraction Safety and Health Program, this webinar will showcase how data drives NIOSH research and prevention activities in the upstream oil and gas industry. This session will describe how data are used to: draw attention to an industry with an elevated occupational fatality rate; influence the development of a new NIOSH research program; identify fatal events, workplace exposure hazards, and guide interventions; and inform the use of technologies and risk management systems to prevent fatigue-related incidents.
