I spent a few weeks in Florida this past January, right in the middle of the pandemic. Florida has no mask mandate. Although there are city and county-level requirements, the state’s governor suspended all fines and penalties associated with non-compliance back in September. So people are free to do what they want. I’m not going to argue whether this is good policy or not. I wear a mask, but no one is ever going to fully agree on whether.

Patrons at a Mexican restaurant in Houston threatened to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on workers who wouldn’t take their masks off on the job.  “This has been ongoing through COVID,” Steven O’Sullivan, one of the owners of Cantina Barba, told “We’ve had threats of calling ICE,” he said. “I had one guy just stand there and berate one of my bartenders and tell her, ‘You’re an absolute idiot, you don’t know what you’re doing. If you think these masks are going to save your life, you’re stupid,’” O’Sullivan added. “Nobody wants to deal with that stuff.”
