Jefferson NJ driver admits he was drunk in crash that killed passenger

New Jersey Herald A 21-year-old Oak Ridge man admitted Tuesday that he was drunk when he crashed into a tree in Jefferson Township, killing his 21-year-old passenger last April. Matthew Pulis acknowledged during a Morris County court hearing that his blood alcohol level was .104% – over the .08% legal limit – when he drove his 1973 Chevrolet Nova on Berkshire Valley Road on April 25. His passenger, only identified by initials in court, died at the scene. Prosecutors said Pulis also had cannabinoids in his system, including THC, the primary psychoactive compound that gives marijuana its high. Pulis, who wore thick-rimmed glasses and a black T-shirt, answered yup to questions asked of him several times until Morris County Superior Court Judge Stephen Taylor corrected him, advising him to answer with a yes or no.
