Latest coronavirus numbers in Oneida County
Five people died from the coronavirus in Oneida County, officials announced Saturday, bringing the total coronavirus-related deaths in the county to 188.
The county also announced 230 new positive cases including five among nursing home residents bringing the total number of cases in the county to 9,190, officials said.
Of these cases, 4,925 are active, while 4,077 people have recovered, officials said. There are also 115 people hospitalized with the coronavirus in the county, including seven nursing home residents; 101 are hospitalized at Mohawk Valley Health Systems Hospitals and 14 are at Rome Memorial Hospital. Another 14 people are hospitalized outside the county, officials said.

MVHS administers Pfizer vaccine to 332 employees

Mohawk Valley Health System gave the last of its 332 Pfizer vaccines to staff members on Friday, after receiving the doses on Wednesday.

UTICA, N.Y. – Mohawk Valley Health System gave the last of its 332 Pfizer vaccines to staff members on Friday, after receiving the doses on Wednesday.
There were 45 doses administered the first day, 141 on the second day, and the remainder were given on Friday.
MVHS is one of 10 ‘hub’ hospital systems in the state, storing the vaccine in special freezers that were delivered last week.
The Canada-U.S. Border Restrictions Are Now Extended Into 2021
These restrictions have been extended until January 21st 2021.
The world s longest international border has been closed to non-essential travel for months, although essential workers such as truck drivers and health care professionals are still able to cross by land. Canadians also are still able to fly to U.S. destinations.
According to
CBC, Americans wishing to travel to Canada must prove to the Canada Border Service Agency that their visit is for an essential purpose or they have immediate family in Canada. Also on top of that, they have to prove they have no COVID-19 symptoms and they have a 14-day quarantine plan unless they can prove they are exempted.
MVHS Receives First Shipment Of COVID-19 Vaccine
MVHS received their doses of the Pfizer vaccine this morning.
Distribution of the vaccine to health care workers began this afternoon.
Chief Physician Executive at MVHS, DR. Kent Hall, says it’s an exciting day for the Mohawk Valley as the COVID-19 vaccine provides a light at the end of the COVID tunnel.
“While it will likely take close to nine months to get everyone in the community vaccinated, this is a huge step in the right direction get the pandemic under control so that we can return to some sort of normalcy. I commend all those involved in getting the vaccine developed and distributed in unprecedented fashion. It will save many, many lives,” said Hall.
