Oneida County already receiving applications for vaccination workers

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. announced Thursday the push to hire workers to vaccinate residents is going well, one day after the positions and funding were approved by the Oneida County Board of Legislators. “We’re ramping up even faster than I hoped for,” Picente said during a brief Facebook Live presentation. “… We need to get the vaccine into people’s arms and not sitting on the shelf.” Picente said the county already has received 30 applications from nurses looking to help administer the vaccine and 10 applications for support staff. A native of Ogdensburg, Ms. Brien has worked as a respiratory therapist for nearly four years — a career she’s found both fulfilling and rewarding, but felt she could continue to help others in greater need elsewhere. “I didn’t want to just go to work for a paycheck,” Ms. Brien said. “I wanted to do something where if I passed away tomorrow, I know I would’ve made a difference in somebody’s life.”

Where I Wander - Wild Turkey - My Little Falls

Dec 31, 2020 Story and Photographs by Joan Herrmann Whereiwander… winter generally provides me ample opportunities to slow down and spend time observing the wildlife from our kitchen windows. Just before or after a winter storm there is a lot of activity at the feeders and within the yard. Every bird and mammal that I watch is engrossed in finding food, eating, or preening. Other than sleeping and being wary of predators, sustenance and cleanliness are their daily objectives. It is fun to watch the deer grooming each other. Sometimes the deer will stand head to tail opposite one another, which enables them to spruce up the spots that each cannot reach without help. The wild birds will rest in the nearby trees and preen. The wild turkeys are especially fun to watch.
