A medical helicopter transports a shooting victim from Hartshorne to the McAlester Regional Health Center.Â
Law enforcement officers from the Hartshorne Police Department and the Pittsburg County Sheriff s Office are investigating the shooting of a local man near noon Wednesday.
Hartshorne Police Chief Jerry Ford identified the shooting victim as Richard Newman, 52, of Hartshorne.
Ford said a call came in at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday regarding a report of a shooting at a residence along State Highway 1, near a former restaurant in the area.
After the call came in, Ford said he responded to an address in Hartshorne where Newman drove to after he was shot.

MRHC CEO David Keith said Western Shelters would not be used due to hospital capacity and staffing levels.
Nearly a third of the patients who are hospitalized at the McAlester Regional Health Center are COVID-19 patients. We have 21 COVID patient beds, said MRHC Chief Executive Officer David Keith. That s a little over a third of our patients.
That s based on an average daily census at the McAlester hospital of 65 patients, including both COVID and non-COVID patients, Keith said.
While COVID-19 patients are filling almost a third of the patients beds at the MRHC, the average is even higher when it comes to the Intensive Care Unit.
