The Gatton Academy Recognizes Kentucky Educators for Support of The Class of 2021

Elise Swift-Taylor Thursday, May 13th, 2021 The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky recently recognized 22 educators from across the Commonwealth for their support of high ability students. The educators were recognized at the program’s May 2 Commencement in Diddle Arena. The Gatton Academy established the Gatton Academy Educator Recognition Program in 2018 to acknowledge and celebrate the support students receive from teachers, counselors, gifted and talented specialists, and principals along their educational journeys. Educators play key roles in encouraging students to develop their strengths, explore topics of interest, and set lofty goals. Students often learn of the opportunities The Gatton Academy offers through educators who recognize their potential.

Heartland road projects 5/12

Heartland road projects 5/21 Amber Ruch Missouri Butler County Business U.S. 60 (West Pine Blvd.) will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform roadside work. This section of road is located between Business U.S. 60/67 (Westwood Blvd.) and Second Street in Poplar Bluff. Weather permitting, crews will be working on Monday, Feb. 1 through Friday, Oct. 1 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Cape Girardeau County Jackson crews will be working throughout the city to re-stripe roads to improve visibility for drivers. Weather permitting, crews will be working from May through June. Warning signs, flashing lights and barricades will be in place. Drivers are urged to use caution.

(KFVS) - A one-and-a-half-year-old girl is now in stable condition after a serious and life threatening accident. It happened on Thursday, May 6 in the 6000 block of Old Mayfield Road. Deputies said she was riding a zero-turn lawnmower with an adult when she fell and was struck in the leg by the blades.

Man catches hand grenade while magnet fishing near Paducah, Kentucky

A man who was magnet fishing this week in Western Kentucky got something to stick on his line, but it didn t have gills  it was a hand grenade. The Paducah Police Department said its Bomb Squad was called out Monday evening to the Clarks River bridge off Sheehan Bridge Road on a report that a man caught a grenade while magnet fishing. The squad used its robot to retrieve the item and place it in an explosive storage container, the Paducah Police Department said in a Facebook post that included a photo of the grenade.  It was properly disposed of without incident.
