A lawyer working on behalf of the state of Maine continued to represent low-income defendants after being arrested for impaired driving in May.
The attorney, Suzanne Dwyer-Jones, was arrested by police in York, Maine, for driving while intoxicated after failing a sobriety test on May 10, police said. She posted bail and returned to work on May 12 at Biddeford District Court as the state’s lawyer for defendants who can’t afford to hire their own attorneys.

Nearly five years to the day after the killing, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court will hear the appeal of a Limington man’s murder conviction Thursday.
Bruce Akers of Limington was accused of murdering his neighbor, Douglas Flint, on June 9, 2016, and found guilty in January 2020 after an initial determination that he was incompetent to stand trial. He was eventually put on trial after treatment at the Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta.

Maine lawmaker sued for allegedly clear-cutting neighbors’ land
The lawsuit claims that Rep. Heidi Sampson and Robert Sampson of Alfred cut more than 4,344 trees from the neighbor property, then built a barn, stable and gated horse paddock on the area.

A state lawmaker from Alfred is being sued by neighbors who claim she and her husband improperly clear-cut more than 4,300 trees on the neighbors’ property to build a barn and paddock.
The lawsuit was filed against Rep. Heidi Sampson and Robert Sampson by Sasha and Christopher Malone, who claim the Sampsons clear-cut part of the Malones’ heavily forested 11.5-acre property. Sampson, a Republican, has represented House District 21 since 2016 and previously served on the State Board of Education.
