A 26-year-old York Township man died Sunday afternoon as a result of two crashes on I-83, according to York County Coroner Pam Gay.
The report says Patrick Clafferty was traveling northbound just past Exit 14 (Leader Heights Road) when he lost control of his motorcycle. Clafferty left the motorcycle, struck the median and came to rest in the roadway. No other vehicles were involved in the initial crash.
Seconds later a second crash occurred involving two SUVs and two tractor-trailers. Sometime during that crash, Clafferty was struck while lying on the roadway, and he ended up caught under one of the SUVs, the coroner says.
