Friday update: Oswego County virus cases up 12 to 7,820

OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Friday, May 7, that 12 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,820. There are currently 174 active positive cases. Oswego County’s seven-day positivity rate jumped from 1.4% last week to 2.3% this week. Its community transmission rate remains “high” according to the CDC. “This shows us that the virus is still active in our communities,” said Huang. “We must work together to reduce the number of new positive cases. The best way to do that is through vaccination. Please, make an appointment for a vaccination as soon as you are able.”

May 6, 2021 FONDA The Montgomery County Department of Public Health will have a rabies vaccination clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mohawk Town Barn, 2-4 Park St. The New York State Public Health Law requires that all dogs, cats and domestic ferrets shall have initial vaccinations administered against rabies no later than 4 months of age and stay up to date with re-vaccinations. Re-vaccinations are required one year later and a booster shot every three years. It is important to have pets vaccinated in a timely manner in order for the pet to be considered protected against the virus. Pet owners should bring proof of their pet’s last rabies vaccination.

Wednesday update: Oswego County virus cases up 26 to 7,652

OSWEGO — Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Wednesday, April 28, that 26 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,652. There are currently 221 active positive cases. “Over the last several days, our county has fluctuated between the CDC’s ‘high’ and ‘significant’ community transmission levels,” Huang said. “As of today, we remain at a ‘significant’ level. This shows us that we need to keep working to reduce virus transmission in our communities.” He urged eligible people to get vaccinated and reminded residents to follow COVID-19 protocols. “Wearing a mask, maintaining social distance and washing your hands frequently are the best ways to help prevent the spread of the virus and reduce the number of positive cases.”
