Additional Probes, Lawsuits Announced on Toxic Elements in Baby Food
New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced a probe into whether baby food contains toxic elements such as arsenic and other metals. In a press release, James said, ““Baby food manufacturers have a legal and moral obligation to ensure the safety of their products, and provide peace-of-mind to the parents who rely on their products every day. Through this probe, I am committed to protecting the health and wellness of the next generation.”
D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine filed a lawsuit against Beech-Nut Nutrition Co., alleging “that Beech-Nut’s deceptive and misleading advertising violated the District’s consumer protection laws and misled parents that its baby food underwent the most stringent testing and was fully safe for babies when, in fact, the food contained high levels of toxic heavy metals.” Racine is quoted as saying, “No company should profit by illegally deceiving parents abo

Andrew Cuomo has desperately, and so far successfully, held on to power over New York state. Cuomo must take responsibility for his unacceptable actions and immediately resign.
When the first reports came out that Cuomo had been accused of inappropriate behavior, the story became national news, and calls for his resignation began. As more women came forward and detailed their traumatic experiences with the governor, prominent Democratic figures such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called on Cuomo to resign.

James said that her office has requested information from the companies that make Gerber, Beech-Nut, Earth’s Best Organic, and HappyBABY brands to “examine whether the infant rice cereal products that are sold in New York contain arsenic at levels exceeding the legal maximum under the law.”

Law360 (April 29, 2021, 6:56 PM EDT) The New York attorney general on Thursday announced an investigation into baby food makers, including Gerber Products Co. and Beech-Nut Nutrition Co., over high levels of inorganic arsenic in their food, months after a congressional report revealed high levels of toxins in major baby food brands.
New York Attorney General Letitia James said that she asked the companies, which also include Nurture Inc. and Hain Celestial Group Inc., to look into whether their baby rice cereal has more arsenic than the maximum allowed by state law. She is also examining whether their advertising and promotion comply with New York consumer protection.
