Statement says locals have paid more than $2 million to house accused drug smugglers after declined prosecutions
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff s Office (YCSO) is appealing to the federal government to start paying its fair share for the incarceration of undocumented immigrants.
YCSO released a statement Thursday citing the high cost of housing accused drug smugglers in the Yuma County Detention Center (YCDC). Internal records show, it cost more than $2 million for deputies to feed and house the 293 accused marijuana mules brought to the YCDC by U.S. Border Patrol and ICE between 2015 and 2018.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Police Department arrested Erick Chavez on Friday for violating his probation for the conviction of the following: Aggravated Driving Under the Influence.
Due to the severity of Chavez s prior conviction, officers proceeded to book him at the Yuma County Detention Center.
Chavez will be charged with #1 AGG DUI-LIC SUSP/REV - Driving Under the Influence of intoxicating liquor (or drugs) while license suspended/revoked.

Shattered door leads to burglary alarm at 1st Bank Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff s Office (YCSO) responded to a burglary alarm at 1st Bank Yuma in the foothills early Sunday morning.
Upon arrival, deputies found out the main glass door to the building was shattered at the bank located at 11600 S. Fortuna Road.
Security footage around 5:30 a.m. shows a man entering the building and rummaging through drawers before leaving.
YCSO located the man and found him in possession of evidence related to the incident.
21-year-old Justice Donnelly was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for burglary, criminal trespass, and criminal damage.
