Sheriff Ron Spike called the crash involving a horse-and-buggy last week “another sad event of not sharing the roadway.” There have been multiple serious crashes involving vehicles and buggies in Yates County over the last several months. While investigators from the Yates County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office work together to determine if criminal charges are warranted- the driver has already been ticketed for failure to exercise due caution in approaching a horse and following too closely.

Fingerlakes1.com Menu The Yates County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious crash involving a motor vehicle and horse-and-buggy. It occurred on Route 14A, according to first responders, who said two people had to be airlifted from the scene. The two who were seriously injured and airlifted were inside the buggy at the time of the collision. Route 14A was closed for a period of time during the afternoon hours after the crash as crews worked the scene. Deputies said that the horse was transported to a nearby farm- and was not hurt in the wreck. No additional information was immediately available at the time of the crash.

(WHEC)  Two people were flown to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after the Yates County Sheriff s Office said their horse and buggy was rear-ended on Route 14a in Penn Yan. Deputies say the buggy was destroyed but a nearby farmer was able to secure the horse, who survived the crash. Ella Horning, 79, and Ivan Horning, 80, both of Penn Yan, were ejected in the crash and were airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police say the driver of the car that rear-ended them was not injured. The car was towed from the scene.
