Yolo DA and Umpqua Bank sponsor free shred day

The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office and Umpqua Bank are co-hosting a free shred event for Yolo County residents and Umpqua Bank customers from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Umpqua Bank, 203 Main St. in
Woodland.
“Shredding paperwork containing personal information, such as social security numbers, is one of the first steps in reducing the chance of identity theft happening to you,” said District Attorney Jeff Reisig.
There is no limit to the number of boxes of documents that need to be shredded. No stiff metal, plastic bags, CDs or DVDs, or other items that will jam the shredder are allowed. For more information to report suspected fraud to the Yolo County District Attorney, visit YoloDA.org.
Yolo jury convicts man in Woodland fatal shooting who evaded capture for nine years

May 14 A Yolo County Jury on Thursday convicted a man who fired a gun at a crowd leaving a Woodland bar in 2011, killing one man and wounding several other people, prosecutors said.
The man investigators later identified as the shooter, Jose Luis Gomez Arreola, left California and evaded capture for nine years before authorities found him in Idaho last year.
The jury found Arreola, 36, of Fairfield, guilty of one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder and eight counts of assault with a gun, the Yolo County District Attorney s Office announced in a news release Friday.

The week of May 9th is National Police Week, which honors officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
Yolo County has endured the loss of 12 of its community protectors since 1912. Most recently, the murder of Davis Police Officer Natalie Corona, which occurred on January 10, 2019. Yolo County District Attorney will honor officers killed in the line of duty at a memorial walk to remember scheduled for May 13th
Due to COVID-19, there will not be a public event this year, but the Yolo County Retired Peace Officers Association will hold a private abbreviated event honoring fallen officers at the Peace Officers Memorial monument located on the grounds of the old historic court house in Woodland.

YOLO COUNTY, Calif. The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office is again criticizing the county’s continued use of $0 bail and is blaming hundreds of new crimes on the policy.
“Since April 13, 2020, individuals released on $0 bail have committed over 908 new crimes,” stated a press release issued by DA Jeff Reisig’s office. Those new crimes include 387 felonies and 521 misdemeanors, the DA’s office said.
