TDOE Charter School Expansion Grants Awarded To 15 Applicants Awards Will Fund 8,800 New Charter School Seats For Tennessee Students Friday, May 7, 2021 The Tennessee Department of Education on Friday announced that 15 applicants have been awarded subgrants under the Charter School Expansion Grant, including two in Hamilton County. These funds are intended to support sponsors throughout the planning, design, application, and potential launch of new charter schools in the state.  These subgrants will fund up to 8,800 new charter school seats that, subject to authorizer approval, will be available to students in five districts that currently do not have any charter schools and in three districts that already authorize charter schools.

Walter Hill Elementary Precautionary Evacuation due to Gas Leak Apr 13, 2021 at 11:31 am by WGNS James Evans, spokesperson with the Rutherford County Schools, notified parents of Walter Hill School Students on Tuesday about a gas leak.  The gas leak was reported outside of the school building and students were evacuated. The children were moved to a nearby church, which is their evacuation site for the school, while emergency officials address the gas leak. The gas has been turned off and the fire department has checked the school with instruments and determined it is safe.  The students were moved back to the school. Evans said, We’ve already made arrangements with Wilson Elementary School who will be providing sack lunches for the Walter Hill students.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS: Youth Suicide Prevention Training for Parents Apr 13, 2021 at 09:26 pm by WGNS The Rutherford County Schools are teaming up with Trustpoint Hospital in Murfreesboro for an important seminar geared towards parents. The event will provide youth suicide prevention training for parents, an important topic that school administrators and teachers are often asked about. Adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Anaad Patel and TrustPoint Hospital s adolescent unit nurse manager Amy Allen, RN will discuss warning signs, steps you can take and resources available to help prevent suicide in youth. The informational event for parents will be on April 29th from 6-7 p.m. at the Rutherford County Schools Central Office, 2240 Southpark Drive in Murfreesboro.
