EPA barred from taking final decision on Ravi project

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday restrained the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from taking a final decision on the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) of Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project.
Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza passed this order on a petition filed by Public Interest Law Association of Pakistan (PILAP) challenging the EIA prepared on behalf of Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) by Engineering Consultancy Services Punjab (Private) Limited (ECSP), the consultant.

The United Arab Emirates will soon open its visa centre in Lahore, according to a report.
UAE’s Ambassador Hamad Obaid Alzaabi said this in a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, the Al-Arabiya Urdu service reported.
The UAE diplomat expressed interest in bilateral cooperation
in different sectors, particularly construction and health.

LAHORE: Keeping in view the environmental impact assessment reports submitted by the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and Lahore Development Authority (LDA), the Punjab’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has decided to hold public hearings on the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project and LDA City Naya Pakistan Apartment project to receive objections, suggestions etc from the public at large in this regard.
The public hearings on the EIAs of RUDA and LDA would be held on Feb 21 and 22, respectively.

As the opposition’s deadline for the government to quit by January 31 passed without any event, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday threw down the gauntlet, saying he would resign if the opposition leaders return the wealth they had looted from the nation.
The opposition Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had given a deadline to the government to resign by January 31, saying that they would force the departure of the ruling party by staging a long march and en masse resigning from the assemblies.
