ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. Rockingham County school board members voted to terminate Superintendent Dr. Rodney Shotwell at a meeting Monday night.
After a closed session the board addressed personnel matters, one involving Superintendent Dr. Shotwell.
His termination will take place in 90 days.
Dr. Shotwell gave parting words at Monday s meeting after the 4-3 vote. This is okay God has a plan for all of us so I m looking forward to the opportunities that come next, Dr. Shotwell said. I wanted to make sure my son saw the people who did this to me.

On Monday, the Republican-led county Board of Education fired Superintendent Dr. Rodney Shotwell.
He s a registered Republican, according to online records. Thursday night, the Rockingham County
Democratic Party condemned his firing.
In a statement regarding the 4-3 vote, the party said it vehemently denounces the recent action of four members of the Rockingham County Board of Education.

The NAACP said their mission is to eliminate acts of discrimination regardless of race or color.
WENTWORTH â The Rockingham County Board of Education voted 4-3 after a closed session Monday night to fire Rodney Shotwell, longtime superintendent for the 25-school district and a former North Carolina Superintendent of the Year.
By Wednesday night, nearly 1,000 Rockingham County parents and community members had signed an online petition calling for Shotwell s reinstatement. And leaders of the county s NAACP announced a Friday press conference at which they are expected to denounce the board s discharge of Shotwell.
The board gave Shotwell, who has overseen the district s $130 million budget and piloted a hybrid system through the pandemic, 90 days notice, but no reason for his dismissal during the open session of Monday night s meeting, a video recording of the meeting showed.
