Two killed, infant critically injured in Augusta crash

Photo: WINA July 7, 2021, News Release Virginia State Police is investigating a multi-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred July 7, 2021 at 8:55 a.m. in the 3300 block of Point Lookout Road. A Ford Escape was traveling north on Point Lookout Road when it crossed the centerline. The Escape first struck the rear of a southbound Dodge Durango and then struck head-on a southbound Ford F-450 pickup truck. The impact of the crash caused the Escape to catch fire. Meanwhile, the Ford F-450 ran off the right side of the road and struck a pedestrian working in his yard. The driver of the Escape died at the scene. The remains have been transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke for positive identification, autopsy and examination. An individual at the scene was able to pull a 1-month-old child from the burning vehicle. The infant was flown to UVA Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

(WVIR) - Virginia State Police are investigating a small airplane crash that happened near the Shenandoah Valley Airport Monday night. Police say a Piper PA-28-140 was conducting touch-and-go landings at the airport in Weyers Cave. As the small aircraft was attempting to land, the pilot’s controls became unresponsive causing the plane to drift left. The plane caught a limb and then struck several trees just outside the airport property.

Photo: WINA WEYERS CAVE (WINA) – State Police say some trouble with the plane led to Monday evening’s crash of a small aircraft at the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport. A preliminary investigation by Trooper J.M. Cappo reveals the 17-year old pilot was practicing touch-and-go landings at the airport around 7 Monday night when controls became unresponsive. He was unable to keep the Piper PA-28-140 from drifting left… and the plane caught a limb at the woodline of the airport, and hit several more trees. The pilot from Romney, West Virginia was transported to UVa with serious, but non-life threatening injuries…. and a juvenile passenger was taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital for treatment also of non-life threatening injuries.
