The long wait for new flats for 322 families in the capital’s coastal region is about to end this month with the completion of construction of flat complexes at Mathippuram near the Vizhinjam fishing harbour, under the second phase of the Rajiv Awaz Yojana (RAY) housing project.

Six years ago, 50 fishing families, including hers, were shifted out of their huts at Mathippuram, near the Vizhinjam fishing harbour, to this plot a kilometre away.
BHUBANESWAR: As many as 143 RAY (Rajiv Awas Yojana) beneficiaries of Satyakali Behera Sahi Basti in the city were given possession letter of their houses built under the Rangamatia Relocation Project-Gadakana, under the jurisdiction of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
They received the letters in a meeting organised by BMC South East Zone at Satyanagar Park here on Thursday. Among others, Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, noted musician Prafulla Kumar Kar attended the ceremony.
Survey was started in 2013 to identify beneficiaries for the housing scheme. There are 280 beneficiaries from Satyakali Basti of ward-34. Out of 280 sanctioned houses, 143 beneficiaries received the possession letter. At Rangamatia Relocation Project-Gadakana there are 600 houses for such beneficiaries. After these beneficiaries, Arabinda and Tarini Basti of ward-9, Dasaraj basti and Patra Sahi Basti of ward-12 will get their houses, said the MLA.
