Lalu s sentence suspended by HC, set to walk free | Ranchi News

Ranchi/Patna: Incarcerated RJD president Lalu Prasad is set to walk out of jail after the Jharkhand high court suspended the remaining duration of his prison sentence in the Dumka treasury fodder scam case, RC 38A/96, on Saturday. Lalu, currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS in New Delhi under custody, is likely to be released next week after the formal processes are complete. During the hearing on Saturday, former Union minister and senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued on behalf of Lalu, saying that the RJD president had completed more than half of the maximum sentence of seven years’ rigorous imprisonment in the Dumka treasury case and was entitled to be released.

Govt procures equipment to increase ventilator, oxygen beds at Rims | Ranchi News

Ranchi: In order to increase the strength of oxygen and ventilator-supported beds at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), the state government procured 70 high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) cannula and equipment for 30 more ventilator beds. On Saturday, a consignment with all necessary items reached Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport from Delhi. This comes in the backdrop of several instances of Covid-19 patients dying outside hospitals, including Rims and Ranchi sadar hospital, due to lack of availability of beds. Currently, the active caseload of the virus in the district stands at 9,400. In order to ease out patients’ woes of hunting for Covid beds in the city, the district administration had also launched a dashboard to check availability of beds. Image used for representational purpose only RANCHI: The Jharkhand high court on Monday asked the government to be more compassionate and make arrangements for speedy disposal of bodies of Covid-19 patients with dignity. Taking note of the news flashed across local dailies that bodies are piling up in burning ghats, a division bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, which had taken suo moto cognisance of the Covid management in Jharkhand last year, said the administration must pull up its socks and ensure that proper arrangements are made at the crematoriums. Terming the situation as a “medical emergency”, the bench said it had hoped that the government would have learnt from the mistakes it made during the Covid-19 pandemic last year. “But it seems that the government has not learnt its lesson,” the bench remarked.

HC pulls up Ranchi civil surgeon for delay in sending samples for Covid testing | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court came down heavily on Ranchi civil surgeon in the course of a proceeding for having failed to send samples collected for Covid testing here on Friday. The court also observed that the civil surgeon cannot play with the lives of people and he should tender his resignation if he cannot do his job. The division bench while hearing a petition on the poor infrastructure of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) brought up the action of the civil surgeon before the health department secretary K K Soan. Soan was appearing through the virtual mode in the public interest litigation.
