The police force also says it does not believe a hovercraft, landing at the time of the incident, was to blame. Hampshire Constabulary said: We were called shortly after 5.45pm, on Saturday April 24, to a report that a woman was unconscious in the water, off Clarence Esplanade, Southsea. Officers attended and a 59-year-old woman was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital. Despite best efforts, she was sadly pronounced dead on Saturday evening.

Woman in life-threatening condition following incident at hovercraft terminal

A woman aged in her 40s has been rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition after she was involved in an incident at a hovercraft port. The incident happened near to the Hovertravel slipway at Clarence Pier, Southsea, Hampshire, at about 5.30pm on Saturday, according to the Coastguard. The woman was rescued from the sea by the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) before she was brought ashore at Old Portsmouth and taken to hospital by ambulance in a life-threatening condition.
