Kingston resident, historian and former Whig-Standard journalist Arthur Milnes has been appointed to the board on the Ontario Heritage Trust, the province’s main historical body.
“In a small way I’ll be able now to share my passion for history with folks across our great province,” Milnes said on his Facebook page. “Hopefully I’ll be able to make a difference.”

Congratulations are due to Omar Alghabra for his recent appointment as minister of Transport. At the same time, the prime minister has chosen not to fill Alghabra’s former position as parliamentary secretary for Public Service Renewal. Alghabra as parliamentary secretary had reported directly to Justin Trudeau, presumably signifying the prime minister’s interest in the issue. By not filling his position, the prime minister appears to be downgrading the importance of public service reform to the government.
This would be unfortunate, if true, because in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the future challenges facing the country, an updated public service is more important than ever.
